Calling all researchers interested in
contextual approaches to organizational change!
Join us for our PDW on Dynamic Approaches to Context and Change:
Moving the Theoretical and Methodological Goalposts
Are you studying organizational change? Do you want to know more about how you can approach context-change-action as dynamic and interwoven? If your answer is yes, you should attend our PDW at AOM 2025 in Copenhagen!
This PDW aims to move empirical research and theorization of organizational change forward by foregrounding the significance of dynamic approaches to context. We seek to advance contextual studies of organizational change processes by focusing on context as dynamic and changing over time. To do this, we need to shift our focus away from what context is to why it matters how we understand, study and work with context as an integral part of our research and theorization processes.
Our PDW is open to scholars from all career stages, disciplines, AOM divisions, and methodological/theoretical backgrounds who are interested in expanding the scholarly conversation around context and organizational change. The workshop also provides a potential outlet for participants' work through its connected to an open call for papers in the Journal of Change Management: Reframing Leadership and Organizational Practice https://think.taylorandfrancis.com/special_issues/dynamic-approaches-to-context-and-change-moving-the-theoretical-and-methodological-goalposts/
Part one contains an introduction in which co-chairs Meier and Dopson will introduce the topic and the workshop agenda. This is followed by a panel session in which the organizers and panelists will present their approaches to context and organizational change and provide insights and examples from working with this approach for how we can operationalize, study and theorize context and organizational change.
Part two contains small-group discussions where pre-registered participants will present and receive feedback on their submitted ideas for research or potential manuscripts for our current CfPs on dynamic approaches to context and change. Walk-in participants will be asked to join these discussions, where they can ask questions and provide feedback.
The workshop ends with a joint plenary discussion, where the organizers hear back from each group and integrate these inputs into the overall theme of the workshop, enabling all participants to contribute to moving the methodological and theoretical goalposts for change research and practice.
Panelist: Emmy Hjort-Enemark Topholm (Aalborg University)

Participants who wish to pre-register must submit an abstract outlining what they would like to present and receive feedback on in group discussions. Application for pre-registration is made by sending an abstract (max 300 words) to meier@socsci.aau.dk.
