Planning for The Day After: Reviving and Rebuilding U.S. Federal Government Healthcare Organizations

We invite you to explore how current and future organizational studies could guide practitioners-- and researchers-- when they seek to rebuild federal healthcare agencies. The U.S. federal government, including organizations responsible for regulating and providing healthcare as well as protecting public health, has been undergoing disruptive processes of major restructuring. These changes-such as downsizing and redefinitions of core functions-- clearly pose immediate and long-term threats to federal organizations. But the upheaval may also create opportunities for change and improvement.

Presentations and Breakout Groups. The PDW team aims to raise participants' awareness of current threats to and opportunities for healthcare organizations. The presenters highlight how previous and future organizational research findings could contribute to revitalizing governmental organizations in the healthcare sector, ranging from agencies to programs. The participants will engage in lively breakout group discussions on how various streams of organizational research could inform efforts to reimagine and renew federal healthcare agencies or programs.
