Apologies for cross postings
Dear ODC subscribers –
We cordially invite you to take part in a global ideation initiative under the umbrella of the Center for the Future of Organization at the Drucker School of Management, that is designed to improve our understanding of the capabilities leaders and their organizations need to fully leverage the power of social technology for competitive advantage.
Much is known about the impact of social media when it comes to customer relations and branding, but less about the equally important strategic and organizational dimensions: how do participative media and technologies change the way organizations work and how do leaders have to adopt? Horizontal networks have a powerful impact on virtually every function, and they come with a transformational force that challenges the current rather linear operating model of business processes.
We took a first look at these questions in our McKinsey Quarterly article "Six Social Media Skills Every Leader Needs". Meanwhile we have refined our conceptual framework. Over the next few months we are conducting a global empirical survey among several thousand senior executives to learn about the state of Organizational Social Media Literacy (OSML) in large and complex organizations.
To complement this quantitative research, we invite thought leaders and executives from around the globe to participate in a global dialogue on the subject. From the executive world we hope to learn about experiences with social media in organizations – both in terms of success stories and stumbling blocks. From the world of academia we hope for further conceptual insights.
For this purpose, we have developed a dedicated dialogue platform which is designed to foster an ongoing collaborative exchange among academia, business and consulting on one of the driving forces that shape the organization on the 21st century.
We cordially to invite you to become part of this global ideation initiative. Here is how it works:
· Sign up to the SixSkills Global Dialogue. While everybody can follow the dialogue, only registered users can contribute or comment. As a registered user you are also automatically subscribed to regular updates on what is happening on the platform.
· The dialogue is organized along a six-dimensional framework, plus a section for ideas that do not fit into one of the dimensions. Just click on any dimension to learn more about it.
· To structure the conversation, we will start with a focus on the role of organizational architecture. Please click here to read our opening statement for this dimension which also includes some questions that should inspire your thinking.
· We will shift every three to four weeks to a new dimension and post an "opening statement" on various social platforms. In addition we will also post key questions we feel are worth to be discussed.
· For more information please refer to the FAQ section of the SixSkills platform
We hope the project sparks your interest and we can welcome you as part of this journey! Please join and register to make your perspective heard - or just to stay informed about what is happening on this site! Please feel free to be in touch with any questions or comments you may have. And please spread the word and point us to colleagues which you would like us to include in our outreach.
With best regards,
