    Colleagues:

I currently teach an undergraduate course in Organization Development & Change using Donald Anderson's Organization Development text book and corresponding cases that students complete individually.

However, I would like to add a "long" case that we can work on as a group throughout the entire semester that would emulate a "full" ODC project within an organization, yet I am having difficulty finding a suitable case.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Sincerely,

    Hi Shannon –

There are a couple of cases in my book "Designing the Smart Organization" that may fit for your purpose. One is about a Business Unit of ABB and deals with radical transformation through an OD project, the other deals with Post Merger integration through a massive process of building a new strategic vision from the bottom up.

I attach a pdf for you which includes the intro of the book as well as abstracts of all the cases; I guess only cases 3 and 4 may be relevant though.

    Best,

    Roland

In my recent paper on the integration of Project Management and Change Management (Hornstein, H. A. [2014]. The integration of project management and organizational change management is now a necessity. International Journal of Project Management, 33, 291 – 298. http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.ijproman.2014.08.005), I make reference to the use of projects as instruments of change. A number of specific cases are introduced, any of which could be used as the learning instrument you seek. For example, Kenny (2003) does an analysis of attempts to institute a distributed learning system at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. He demonstrates clearly that judging the success of projects in any organization is not limited solely to the efficiency of the project management processes employed (Kenny, J. [2003]. Effective project management for strategic innovation and change in an organizational context. Project Management Journal, 34(2), 43 - 53).

I hope that this is helpful.

    Hi Shannon,

I'm glad you mentioned this, because I'm currently working on the fourth edition of the text and plan to incorporate a longer case similar to what you may be looking for!

Until the new edition comes out, if anyone is looking for additional cases, an expanded test bank, PowerPoint slides to use in class, or any other resources (videos, journal articles), please let me know.

    Best,

    Donald
