Dear colleagues,
I am seeking proposals for a paper symposium submission to the Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management in 2012 (due date for proposals is Jan. 10th).
The topic that this symposium will focus on involves the intersection of employee unions and organizational culture/climate. Although a number of studies have examined individual level outcomes and processes associated with unionization (e.g., the effect of union membership on employees' job attitudes) and despite widespread acknowledgement of the powerful influence of unions on the work environment, few theoretical or empirical studies have examined the interplay between unions and group-level constructs including organizational culture/climate. Consequently, we are seeking to bring together a series of conceptual and/or empirical studies that examine how the culture/climate of workplaces are influenced by employee unions, as well as conversely, how workplace culture/climate may contribute to unionization. We welcome potential contributions across the full range of research methodologies and conceptual frameworks.
